Middle School, High School, & College

Writing for Admissions

Whether you’re writing essays and supplementary responses for college applications or for admission to selective independent high schools, I can expertly guide you each step of the way, from brainstorming to drafting to refining your final work.

Reading & Writing for Classes

My 1:1 instruction is informed by 30 years of teaching experience, including 10 years as chair of two multidisciplinary departments of talented teachers. I hold deep knowledge of government, history, literature, and social studies, as well as the reading and writing unique to each discipline. I would be honored to assist you on a single assignment or coach you through a semester.

Writing for AP & IB Exams

I have extensive experience designing and teaching courses in A.P. Comparative Government & Politics, A.P. U.S. Government & Politics, I.B. World History, and I.B. History of the Americas. I welcome the opportunity to help you increase your confidence and improve your skills so you can succeed on these challenging exams.

Together, we will strengthen your organization and planning, both central to excellent writing!

My 1:1 instruction is generally remote, but in-person instruction may be available.

From the parent of a high school junior I am currently tutoring:

Mr. Miller is a godsend. Our very bright son has faced severe challenges in his humanities courses. Mr. Miller has been able to work with our son’s strengths to give him a foothold in complex material while expertly guiding him through the process of noticing patterns, organizing thoughts and producing written expression. From preparing him for oral presentations to building frameworks for interpretation, Mr. Miller has been able to help our son remove roadblocks to learning through working with him on individualized methods and techniques for tackling the humanities. While we are delighted that our son’s grades have improved, we are both grateful and amazed that his confidence in his own abilities and his mindset have been transformed. Thank you, Mr. Miller!
